CLASSIFICATION TITLE: Police Department Patrol Officer
VACANCY NOTICE: The City of Sharonville has immediate vacancies in the classification of Police Department Patrol Officer.

NOTICE: The City Of Sharonville has existing vacancies in the classification of Police Department Patrol Officer. This is a full-time position.
IMPORTANT: ALL APPLICANTS MUST TIMELY, ACCURATELY, AND FULLY COMPLETE BOTH THE NATIONAL TESTING NETWORK PROCEDURES AND THE CITY OF SHARONVILLE PROCEDURES AS DESCRIBED IN THE FOLLOWING PARAGRAPHS.
NATIONAL TESTING NETWORK (NTN) APPLICATION PROCEDURE:
(1) Applicants who are currently registered with NTN must follow all NTN procedures to have The City Of Sharonville added to their list of opportunities for which they would like to be considered.
(2) Applicants who are not currently registered with NTN must do so through the NTN website and follow all registration requirements and procedures listed for The City Of Sharonville.
(3) The City Of Sharonville does not require participation in the NTN Public Safety Self-Assessment (PSSA) procedure. Any PSSA scores reported by NTN to The City Of Sharonville will not be included a candidate's final score.
(4) All NTN-required procedures must be successfully completed by applicants no later than 11:59 PM on July 13, 2025.
CITY OF SHARONVILLE APPLICATION PROCEDURE:
(1) Applicants are required to submit applications for employment through the Sharonville Employment Portal. Applications received in any other manner will not be considered. The Employment Portal can be accessed online - scroll down and click on the JOB OPPORTUNITIES button.
(2) The pre-employment procedure will include a physical assessment, a drug/alcohol screen, a thorough background check, verification of educational levels achieved, verification of length of service and standing with prior employers, and a reference check.
(3) The Sharonville Civil Service Commission will apply extra credit to all final passing scores as determined by NTN for ONE of the following: (a) military credit of 20% of the final passing score to candidates who provide a military service DD-214 form confirming an honorable discharge, OR (b) educational credit of 10% of the final passing score for a bachelor's degree or above, OR (c) educational credit of 5% of the final passing score for an associate degree, OR (d) 15% of the final passing score for possession of a currently effective Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy (OPOTA) certification. IMPORTANT: Copies of degree substantiation documents, OPOTA accreditation, or DD-214 forms MUST BE SUBMITTED WITH THE APPLICATION FOR EMPLOYMENT or extra credit will not be applied. All supporting documents substantiating required certifications, accreditations, education level completed, etc. as stated in this vacancy notice must be submitted WITH the application for employment. Such documents can not be submitted at any other time.

WAGES AND BENEFITS: Wages and benefits are very competitive. The pay rate for newly hired employees will be based on skills, education, job knowledge, and abilities. The current pay range is $25.42 per hour to $46.39 per hour. Pay rates and vacation leave may be commensurate with education and experience. Paid sick leave, an excellent retirement system (Ohio Police And Fire Pension Fund), tuition reimbursement, and other generous benefits will be discussed during the interview process.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Each applicant must be (1) at least twenty-one (21) years of age as of July 13, 2025 (final date to receive applications for employment), AND (2) less than forty-one (41) years of age on the date of appointment to a vacancy, AND (3) have attained a high school diploma or equivalency (GED), AND (4) be able to read, write, and speak English, AND (5) have a vision rating of 20/20 or corrected to 20/20.
DRIVER LICENSE AND INSURABILITY: This classification requires that applicants possess a currently valid driver's license on the applicant's first date of employment, maintain a valid driver's license during their term of employment, AND maintain a driving record that complies with the requirements of The City Of Sharonville insurance carrier.

JOB DESCRIPTION
QUALIFICATIONS
1. Possession of a high school diploma or GED,
2. Must have successfully passed all qualifying examinations and completed the Ohio Peace Office Training Academy or the ability to complete within the assigned probationary period,
3. Must be between twenty-one (21) and forty (40) years of age at the time of appointment.
LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
1. Valid Driver's license; must maintain insurability as set forth by the City's motor vehicle liability insurance requirements,
2. Must retain all certifications required of the position and the State of Ohio. An employee in this capacity is responsible for ensuring that all certifications are current and that all necessary continuing education requirements are met.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (for purposes of 42 USC 12101):
1. Perform preventative and self-initiated patrol duties in an assigned area to protect life and property.
2. Enforce laws and ordinances at the federal, state, and local level.
3. Respond to calls for service, including, traffic incidents, minor and major crimes, civil complaints, thefts, assaults, family disputes, and other public safety matters or emergencies.
4. Investigate and identify causes of crime and take appropriate and necessary action.
5. Establish a community presence and maintain visibility in residential and business areas.
6. Conduct preliminary and follow-up investigations and interrogations.
7. Maintain written records and prepare reports; including daily activity logs that must contain accurate and truthful information and be recorded in a timely manner.
8. Determine the existence of probable cause; identify and take suspects and offenders into custody; make arrests, perform checks, transport, and booking duties; may use physical force to protect oneself or others, to maintain order, or to make an arrest.
9. Operate radar and Light Detection and Ranging (LIDAR) devices, and issue citations or warnings to violators.
10. Direct road traffic; deliver emergency messages; respond and provide assistance to other law enforcement agencies.
11. Contact and coordinate with other law enforcement agencies regarding suspects, calls for service, mutual aid, and other areas of concern.
12. Secure crime scenes; gather and log evidence; ensure proper handling and disposition of property.
13. Perform crime prevention activities that include surveillance patrols and dissemination of information to the public and other agencies.
14. Report to fire and accident scenes in assigned areas, as directed, giving assistance and first-aid where needed.
15. When directed and necessary, appear and testify in a court of law.
16. Work various shifts and irregular hours as necessary; when ordered, be available in times of emergency, crisis, disaster, or other special departmental needs.
17. Demonstrate regular and reliable attendance.
18. Maintain all equipment necessary for the daily performance of job duties, including vehicles and firearms.
19. Follow all Department and administrative directives, regulations, and procedures.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Abide by the Standards of Conduct as defined by the City Administration.
2. Participate in public relations programs, which may include speaking to citizens and/or school groups.
3. Work with other Department members, City departments and other public and private agencies to strengthen communication and develop solutions.
4. Participate in or with various law enforcement task forces and organizations.
5. Maintain familiarity with advanced techniques and ideas designed to improve patrol and other law enforcement duties.
6. Performs related work as required.
MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE CHARACTERISTICS:

- Physical Requirements: Must be physically capable of successfully performing essential job functions; visual acuity must be correctable to 20/20 and free of color deficiencies; ability to sit, walk, and stand on a regular basis for prolonged periods of time in various weather conditions; ability to safely, accurately and effectively discharge a firearm in the line of duty; sufficient clarity of speech and hearing or other communication capabilities; and must be psychologically stable or free of mental disorders that would interfere with performance of duties.

Never been charged with or convicted of a felony, have outstanding criminal cases against them, or a conviction of domestic violence.
Driving Disqualifiers
Must be insurable under City of Sharonville's vehicle insurance carrier.
No OVI arrest within the last 3 years.
No DUS or Reckless Operation arrests within the last 3 years.
Multiple traffic arrests that may make one uninsurable.
Drug Use Disqualifiers
Any person who has been convicted in a court of competent jurisdiction for the sale of narcotics, marijuana, dangerous drugs or hallucinogens or any other controlled substance or an attempt, conspiracy or solicitation to commit such a criminal act, may be disqualified.
Any person who has been a user of cocaine, hallucinogens, dangerous drugs, or any controlled substance, or who has an alcohol dependency, may be disqualified.
