Papich Construction is currently seeking a Site Safety Representative to join our team.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain a positive and constructive relationship with regional and site management, employees and local regulatory agencies (MSHA, OSHA, Fire Departments, etc.).
  • Ensure site management and site employees are adequately trained for the performance of their tasks.
  • Conduct the on-site new project orientation for each worker assigned to the project.
  • Review the construction work plans for each subcontractor before starting work.
  • Conduct or attend pre-planning sessions for high hazard work such as excavations, demolition, confined space entry, falsework, crane hoisting, high-risk utilities such as high-pressure pipelines with fuel or natural gas and tunneling or boring.
  • Conduct weekly job site safety meetings.
  • Review work schedules, including sub-contractors work schedules to ensure adequacy of job hazard analyses and address all safety related concerns.
  • Ensure safety data sheets are available on-site for all materials and have a hazard communication program informing workers of material hazards.
  • Verify compliance with hazardous waste requirements, including spill prevention and control measures.
  • Conduct daily safety inspections of the job site for hazards and compliance with safety requirements, complete comprehensive report of findings, including corrective plans and recommendations to ensure compliance. Prepare detailed reports of findings using appropriate forms, diagrams, photos and narratives to provide a clear understanding of exposures.
  • Provide expertise for investigations of health, safety and loss control concerns and incidents, development corrective actions and follow-up mechanisms, and ensure communication of relevant information to site and regional management and all employees.
  • Examine work sites to identify hazards in the workplace and on work sites and look for sources of potential injury to those at or near location.
  • Conduct MSHA compliance and safety assessments.
  • Monitor federal, state and provincial agencies for regulatory changes and advise operations of same.
  • Identifies opportunities to minimize workplace injuries, accidents, and health problems.
  • Reviews safety training and recommends revisions, improvements, and updates.
  • Inspects safety equipment; recommends replacements.
  • Timely review of all accidents and incidents reported by any employee, customer or vendor.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

What You’ll Bring…

Required Qualifications:

  • Must have a working knowledge of MSHA, OSHA general industry and construction
  • Possess OSHA 30 certification or OSHA 510 certificate of completion
  • Must be certified in First Aid & CPR
  • Ability to conduct training.
  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficient in technology and equipment used in environmental inspections.
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable MVR in accordance with Company Vehicle Program policy is required
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, or related software.

Must have one of the following certifications:

  • Certified Safety Professional from the Board of Certified Safety Professionals
  • Construction Health and Safety Technician from the Board of Certified Safety Professionals
  • Occupational Hygiene and Safety Technician from the Board of Certified Safety Professionals
  • Safety Trained Supervisor from the Board of Certified Safety Professionals
  • Safety Trained Supervisor Construction from the Board of Certified Safety Professionals
  • Associate Safety Professional from the Board of Certified Safety Professionals
  • Master Safety Profession from the National Association of Safety Professionals
  • Certified Safety Director from the National Association of Safety Professionals

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or other industry-related field preferred.
  • At least 5 years of industry-related experience in heavy construction, heavy industrial, or oil and energy industry.

Work Schedule:

  • Full-time
  • Monday through Friday

Important Notes :

  • This position is based on the Central Coast (San Luis Obispo County) and requires full-time, on-site presence. This is not a remote or hybrid position.

Work Environment :

Indoor and outdoor as required. Frequent sitting, standing, walking and carrying objects up to 50 pounds is required. At times will be working around large construction equipment, must be safety conscience.

  • Ability to complete work tasks under various adverse weather conditions including heat in excess of 100 degrees, cold, and rain
  • Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds or more
  • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time
  • Ability to safely climb up and on trucks and loads
  • Ability to wear all required personal protective equipment
