Senior Quality Assurance Manager – Food Manufacturing - Richmond, VA
Compensation: $140,000 - $165,000 + 17% Annual Bonus, 401k 6% match, Medical, Dental, Vision. Merit increases. 20 days PTO.
Overview:
As the Senior Quality Manager you will be responsible for the overall leadership and management of these programs:
- Deploying and maintaining global and regional quality and food safety programs and policies, incorporating operational feedback for continuous improvement.
- Utilizing risk assessments as a key decision-making tool for product, process, and package design safety.
- Overseeing risk-based food safety verifications for suppliers, internal and external plants, and warehouses.
- Managing operational food safety challenges, including disposition decisions based on risk assessment and guidance on risk management interactions with authorities.
- Collaborating and influencing cross-functional peers, effectively communicating the importance of food safety and its alignment with company values.
- Fostering a strong food safety culture across the organization.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and monitor Quality Control systems to ensure all in-process and finished goods meet established government, company, and internal specifications, as well as adhere to all Food Safety measures.
- Provide leadership and technical assistance to operations and maintenance teams, promoting regulatory awareness and commitment.
- Conduct fact-based assessments/audits of Manufacturing Systems, ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and other regulatory requirements.
- Lead all internal and external auditing activities and follow-up, ensuring the plant maintains compliance with external standards.
- Oversee required quality/regulatory training programs.
- Lead the site in achieving Quality goals and objectives, supporting the development of the Quality Improvement Plan. Analyze key Quality measures, identify root causes of deviations, and implement effective corrective actions.
- Contribute to the achievement of facility Quality KPIs through corrective/preventative actions and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Lead the Quality Management program to establish Quality Points and reduce waste using RCA tools and Statistical Process Control.
- Implement programs to instill an error prevention and continuous improvement mindset.
- Ensure adequate support for the evaluation of raw materials, finished products, industrial hygiene studies, and environmental sampling and testing.
- Provide direction related to HACCP systems, micro testing programs, sanitation, and pest control, leveraging company functional experts for capability building.
- Investigate customer feedback, including Consumer and Field Complaints, developing plans and controls to prevent recurrences and drive continuous improvement.
- Provide quality support for plant projects and initiatives.
Qualifications Seeking:
- Bachelor’s degree in Quality, Food Science, Business Administration, or a related field required.
- Knowledge of Quality Systems: HACCP, GMP, AIB, SQF, BRC, FSSC 22000, ISO 9001.
- 7+ years of experience in Production/Manufacturing.
- 7+ years of experience leading and managing a diverse workforce in a fast-paced team environment.
- 7+ years of experience directly managing food quality/safety, receiving, and delivery processes and programs.
- Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) methodology experience, with a strong focus on the Quality Maintenance (QM) pillar.
- Six Sigma Black Belt Preferred.
- Quality Certifications preferred.
- Demonstrated success in driving performance improvements in complex environments and strong leadership capabilities.
- Sound understanding of quality, sanitation, and warehouse environments.
- Knowledge of customer service policies, procedures, and programs.
- Understanding of employee relations within a unionized environment.
- Proven change management and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
