Superintendent required for Leading Shipbuilding/Ship Repair Company

  • Onsite in Norfolk, VA
  • $75,000 - $100,000 per year

A leading shipbuilding and repair company is seeking a Shipyard Superintendent to oversee ship repair projects on government vessels.

The Superintendent will have the following responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage ship repair projects for government clients from planning to completion.
  • Develop detailed project plans, schedules, and resource allocation strategies.
  • Manage multiple complex projects simultaneously.
  • Coordinate with internal teams, subcontractors, and vendors to meet client requirements and industry standards.
  • Approve time charges and material expenditures within spending limits.
  • Write and modify subcontract purchase orders, ensuring values are current.
  • Ensure compliance with contractual obligations, specifications, and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation and records for audits.
  • Compare labor expenditures against the spending plan and report variations.
  • Manage shipboard repair projects, including planning, logistics, and safety protocols.
  • Coordinate with vessel owners and operators to schedule repairs and minimize downtime.
  • Oversee deployment of repair teams, equipment, and materials to vessel sites.
  • Approve material and rental equipment requests within spending limits.
  • Represent the company in customer discussions regarding schedules and change orders.
  • Implement and enforce quality assurance measures and compliance with specifications.
  • Conduct regular inspections and audits to ensure quality and safety.
  • Address non-conformities and safety issues promptly, implementing corrective actions.

The ideal Superintendent candidate will have the following skillset:

  • At least 6 years of experience in shipyard operations, focusing on government ship repair projects.
  • Proven track record of managing complex ship repair projects, including shipboard repairs, within budget and schedule constraints.
  • Experience working with the following government customers: NAVSEA, USCG, MSC, NOAA, ACOE, US Army.
  • Must be currently enrolled in or eligible for DBIDS (Defense Biometric Identification System) to access government installations.
  • Strong technical knowledge of ship repair processes, industry regulations, and safety standards.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, capable of acting as a spokesperson.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications such as Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project.
  • Experience in dry docks and vessel inspections.
