Job Summary: Underground Drop Specialists are responsible for installing and repairing residential fiber optic broadband services. You will be primarily outside customer homes bringing fiber to the Dmark point.
Responsibilities - Install, repair and resolve fiber optic FTTH systems and ensure that they work properly
- Splice and Terminate SM fiber
- Prep, tray, and splice fiber optic cable ranging from single fiber to large counts as well as perform ring cuts when needed
- Perform fiber tests: OTDR, power meter/laser source, and scopes.
- Fiber optic test and troubleshooting abilities
- Assist with excavation & pulling equipment.
- Accessing Fiber Optic Terminals to connect cables
- Adhering to existing practices and standards to ensure consistent quality
- Operate equipment and vehicle in a safe manner
- Ensure vehicle and test equipment are maintained in excellent working condition
- Trouble shoot technical issues swiftly and accurately
- Work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Work in enclosed spaces
- Perform other duties as requested, directed or assigned
- Adhere to and promote the environmental, health & safety policies of AFL

Qualifications - Recent Fiber Installation - Pulling/Terminating fiber cabling... FOA Certification is a plus
- Good motor vehicle driving record
- Ability to interact with customers, vendors, contractors and other required personnel
- The individual must possess and employ the highest ethical and business standards and always conduct himself/herself with the greatest degree of professional integrity
- Fusion splicing/terminations
- General knowledge of OTDR and Light Source and Power Meters
- Familiar with splice drawings and OTDR test sheets and reading traces
- Ability to read splicing matrix and design drawings
- Cable prep/single and mass fusion splicing and termination abilities
- Fiber optic test and troubleshooting abilities
- Ability to do fine, precise work with their hands
- Must be able to work at height of 30 feet
- Ability to manage a physically demanding workload
- Proficient in operating hand and power tools, and test equipment
- Normal color vision to work with color-coded wiring
- Fluent in English
